PORT BARRE – The Eunice Bobcats used an 11-run third inning on their way to an 18-1 victory over the Port Barre Red Devils here Thursday in District 5-3A play.
Junior John Ross Johnson (4-2) limited the Red Devils to just one hit in working the first four innings of the contest.
Johnson did not allow an earned run nor issue a walk. He recorded four strikeouts.
Taylor Aguillard relieved Johnson in the fifth, allowing one hit, issuing one walk, and recording two strikeouts.
The Bobcats (20-7, 6-3) provided all the offense that their pitchers would need.
Brett Darbonne’s two-run double in the first inning gave the Cats a 2-0 lead off Red Devil pitcher Kalen Stelly.
Josh Patin’s sacrifice fly and Kourt Deshotel’s run-scoring double gave the Cats a 4-0 lead in the second inning.
In the third inning, the Bobcats took advantage of a walk, three hit batters, and four errors as they added five hits on their way to a 15-1 lead.
Johnson aided his own cause with a two-run home run and a run-scoring single, while Patin added a two-run single.
Deshotel had a single to drive in his second run of the game.
Eunice built an 18-1 lead by scoring three runs in the fourth.
Terry Alexander singled and Darbonne was hit by a pitch to open the inning.
After a wild pitch moved both runners, Alexander scored on a ground out off the bat of Clay Francois.
Doubles by Derrick Frey and Drake Fruge ended the scoring.
Johnson, Jake Sonnier, and Deshotel led the Eunice offense with two hits apiece.
Getting the two hits for Port Barre were Brook Boudreaux and Jordan Taylor.
The Bobcats will complete district play on Tuesday when they host Rayne in a game scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
