The game was highlighted by excellent pitching from both teams. Bobcat starter Hayden Pitre worked three innings, allowing two hits, walking one, and striking out six.
Mamou starter Jacob Israel also went three innings, allowing three hits and one run. Israel struck out four.
The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. With one out, John Ross Johnson doubled.
Jake Sonnier drove a single to right field to score Johnson before Israel retired the side.
The Demons threatened to tie the game in the fourth off reliever Clay Francois.
A one-out single and a stolen base put the tying run at second. But Francois fanned the next batter and recorded the third out on a grounder.
Johnson was the catalyst for two more Bobcat runs in the fifth inning.
Johnson opened the inning with double off the left-center field wall. Sonnier reached safely on a bunt, advancing Johnson to third base.
Pitre’s safety squeeze bunt scored Johnson, and Sonnier later scored on a single by Drake Fruge.
Francois pitched two innings for the Cats, allowing two hits and striking out two. Kalum Fruge and Johnson Morris pitched the sixth and seventh innings, respectively for the Cats. Neither allowed a hit.
The Cats finished the game with six hits, led by Johnson and Sonnier with two apiece. Drake Fruge and Francois had the other two hits for the Cats.
The Cats will host Crowley High at 5:30 p.m.
