Early voting begins Tuesday

Early voting for the Nov. 2 general election begins in St. Landry Parish on Tuesday at the parish courthouse in Opelousas and continues through Tuesday, Oct. 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 pm. Monday through Saturday.

Persons wishing to vote at the parish courthouse during the early voting period must be registered voters of St. Landry Parish and must provide photo identification recognized by the State of Louisiana, such as a driver’s license or state ID, that has their name, picture and signature.

On the ballot for Eunice residents will be a runoff elections for mayor, between sitting mayor Robert “Bob” Morris and frontrunner Claud “Rusty” Moody, as well as for Chief of Police, between Ronald Dies and Randy Fontenot and a runoff for Ward 1 Alderman between George Fisher and Roland Miller.

There will also be a runoff special election for Lieutenant Governor, between Caroline Fayard and Jay Dardenne to fill the term of former Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu, who resigned to become mayor of New Orleans.

The U.S. Senate seat currently held by David Vitter will be contested between Vitter, Charlie Melancon, Michael Karlton Brown, R.A. “Skip” Galan, Milton Gordon, Randall Todd Hayes, Thomas G. “Tommy” LaFargue, William Robert “Bob” Lang, Jr., William R. McShan, Sam Houston Melton, Jr., Michael Lane “Mike” Spears and Ernest D. Wooton.

There will also be 10 constitutional amendments on the ballot.
