The Bobcats took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning against Jays’ starting pitcher Andrew Hunt, who walked John Ross Johnson, Jake Sonnier, and Hayden Pitre to start the game.
A double by Drake Fruge cleared the bases. Fruge later scored on a single by Taylor Aguillard for the 4-0 advantage.
Aguillard, the starting pitcher for Eunice, retired the first two batters in the bottom of the first before Biscuit Arnaud doubled down the left-field line. But Aguillard induced a ground out from Austin Lafleur to end the inning.
The Bobcats added to their lead with four more runs in the second off reliever Drake Dubois. Kalum Fruge drew a leadoff walk and Luke Larson and Johnson were hit by pitches to open the inning.
Jake Sonnier singled in two runs, advancing to second on an outfield error. Pitre singled home Johnson for a 7-0 lead. Clay Francois singled home Sonnier for the inning’s final run.
Aguillard ran into control problems for the Cats in the bottom of the second, issuing walks to Christian Walker, Adam Schatzle, and Hunt. Walker scored on an error before Kramer Rozas reached safely on a fielders’ choice to load the bases. Aguillard issued another walk to Lane Fontenot to force in a run and cut the lead to 8-2.
Clay Franocis relieved Aguilllard and induced a double-play grounder from Dubois. A run scored to cut the lead to 8-3, but Francois retired the next batter to end the inning.
Dubois pitched a scoreless third inning, allowing only a two-out single by Kalum Fruge. Francois also restored order in the bottom of the third. After a leadoff walk to J.P. Berzas, Francois retired the next three Blue Jay batters to keep the score at 8-3.
On Thursday, the Blue Jays will travel face Notre Dame and the Bobcats will host Port Barre.
