Services were held for former Eunice police chief and town marshal A.C. Matt. He later became a career state policeman.
Cynthia Fink, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Roland Fink, was crowned Miss Eunice. First runner up is Patricia Castille, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Castille, and second runner up is Felicia Hebert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Felix Hebert.
Carl Francois was named outstanding player in the Eunice Little League Tournament. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Houston Francois and played second base, hitting .571 in the 12-team event.
Albert Pousson is new commander of the American Legion post.
City tennis tournament champions in different boys age groups include Glen Courville, Jerry Fontenot, Bernard Fruge, Robert Sattler, Mike Nagata, Gregg Dischler, Kenneth Moody, Jacque Pucheu, Jimmie Watson, Gregg Chataignier and Jimmy Lee Fuselier.
Johnny Reed was selected outstanding American Legion ball player in Eunice this year.
The Bobcats and Blue Jays have begun fall football practice. St. Edmund faces a tough task in replacing players who lead it to a state runnerup title last season.
Four Eunice students got degrees at LSU summer commencement. Sybil Baker, Raymond Fontenot and Rodney Manuel earned master’s in education degrees and Donald Jory receive his BS in business administration.
St. Ed cheerleaders this fall will be Cindy Fontenot, Carolyn Kearney, Germaine Stagg, Pamela Parrott, Mary Manuel, Jana Guillory and Janet Heinen.
Eunice High cheerleaders are Jennifer Penn, Betty Fay Byars, Ellen Jory, Sylvia George, Sharon Hornsby and Renee Saucier.
The firm of Tolson & Hamilton has been retained by the School Board to design the new million-dollar Eunice High School.
