For the second time in the last three seasons, the Hinds Community College baseball program staked its claim as the best team in the state of Mississippi, as the Eagles defeated Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, 6-5, to win the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges state championship in Fulton on Saturday.
Hinds (34-16), which also won the MACJC state title in 2010, went through the state tournament unscathed, defeating Jones County Junior College, host Itawamba Community College and Gulf Coast in consecutive days.
The top three teams advance to the Region 23 tournament to be held at LSU Eunice.
Hinds will be the top seed, with host LSUE entering as the number two seed.
Check back later for the Region 23 bracket.
