A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 11, 2012 at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile. Entombment will follow in the St. Augustine Mausoleum with Father Brian Taylor Celebrant.
She was a retired Ward Clerk for the Basile Nursing Home as well a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and a former Catechism Teacher, Eucharist Minister and Lector.
Survivors include her son, Warren Ray Nelson and wife, Rita of Eunice; her two daughters, Winona Nelson Leger and husband, Tim of Basile and JoJuana Nelson Blackburn and husband, Rick of Opelousas; her brother, Arvil J. Johnson, Sr. and wife, Jean of Sheperd, Texas; five grandchildren, Dione Nahaya, Heather Guillory, Caleb, Aaron, and Sara Leger, and two great-grandchildren, Elijah and Mikalya Nahaya.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rayford Nelson; her parents, Amos and Pearl Bertrand Johnson; brother, Jessway J. Johnson; and a grandson, Andrew Leger.
Visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Basile on Thursday, May 10th from 10:00 am until 10:00 pm and again on Friday, May 11th from 8:00 am until time of services. Deacon Robby Leger will recite a Rosary at 7:00 pm Thursday evening.
