A string of vehicle attacks on vehicles in Eunice have occurred in the past three to four weeks, according to Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot.
The vehicles are targeted for burglaries with the criminals trying doors to find ones that are unlocked, he said,
There have been two arrests for vehicle burglaries recently, but Fontenot said the did not halt the vehicle burglaries.
So far, he said, not windows have been broken to gain entry into the vehicles.
“We are taking extra steps without saying what we are doing,” he said.
Vehicles parked close to the road are vulnerable, but Fontenot said the criminals have gone to vehicles parked in carports.
Among his tips to possible prevent a vehicle break-in are:
— Lock the vehicle.
— Use outdoor lighting so officers can see vehicles and the property at night.
— Do not leave anything of value, such as purses, wallets and change, in the car that is visible.
Vehicle owners are asked to call police even if they only suspect there was attempt to burglarize their vehicle, he said.
