Blue Jays win on senior night

The St. Edmund Blue Jays closed District 5-1A competition with a 4-3 win over district chanpions Catholic High of Pointe Coupee.
The Blue Jays honored seniors Austin Gradney, Jack Brown, Michael Zaunbrecher and head statistican Sarah Fruge.
“They started with me three years ago,” St. Edmund head coach Scott Richard said. “They have been to the finals, the quarterfinals and they mean alot to our program.
“They are three good leaders we are going to lose,” he said. “They are going to be missed.
The Hornets scored first when Samuel Grezaffi singled and scored on a Blue Jay error.
St. Edmund exploded for three runs in the bottom of the inning, begun when Brad Miller and Brown walked as both scored on a bunt single by Luke Doucet who advanced to third on the errant throw.
Doucet would later scored on another Hornet error as the Jays moved ahead, 3-1.
Catholic forced a 3-3 tie in the top of the second, begun when Cameron Pearis singled and scored on a Blue Jay error.
Colin Grezaffi singled and later scored when Andrew Grezaffi walked with the bases loaded.
The Blue Jays scored the decisive run in the bottom of the inning when Brock Bieber singled, advanced on a passed ball, stole third and then cross ed home plate on a Hornet miscue.
“We didn’t play well against them the first two time we played them,” Richard said. “A win will help us get ready for the playoffs.”
St. Edmund closes the regular season today at Eunice High.
