Catholic HIgh of Pointe Coupee grabbed a key District 5-1A sweep over St. Edmund Friday night.
St. Edmund’s Gabby Fontenot drilled a pair of treys early to give the Lady Jays a 6-0 advantage but CHPC answered with three pointers from Kennedi Broussard and Jolie Thibodeaux.
Abby Miller scored for the Lady Jays before Emily Cazayoux scored for the Lady Hornets.
Maggie Larriviere added a bucket to give the Lady Jays a 10-8 lead before a late free throw by CHPC’s Maggie Lambert closed the gap to one point.
Catholic opened the second quarter with a 5-0 run to grab a 14-10 lead before Miller scored on a steal for the Lady Jays.
A trey and two free throws from Broussard increased the Lady Hornets lead to 19-12
Larriviere and Allison Lafleur scored on back-to-back possessions to help the Lady Jays close the margin to 19-16 with 57 seconds left in the half.
Cazayoux hit a jumper in the closing seconds to give CHPC a 21-16 lead at the break.
Lady Hornet Gabbie Gosserand hit a trey early in the third period, but the Lady Jays responded with a 9-0 run sparked by seven points from Fontenot.
Catholic’s Lexi Lacombe hit two free throws as the Lady Hornets retook a 26-25 lead with 5:09 left in the third period.
Two free throws by Miller for a 27-26 advantage was answered by treys from Thibodeaux and Leonard.
Lafleur hit a jumper and a trey to force a 32-32 tie at the 2:02 mark.
The Lady Hornets exploded for a 9-0 run to close the third period, sparked by five points from Cazayoux as Catholic took a 41-32 lead into the final quarter.
Leonard hit two treys early in the fourth period to increase the Lady Hornets’ lead to 47-32.
Lafleur scored twice in the lane and added two free throws while fourmore free throws by Miller helped the Lady Jays close the gap to 47-40.
Camille Leger then drove the lane before Lambert scored for the Lady Hornets.
Leger scored again on a put-back bucket and Larriviere hit a free throw to pull the Lady Jays closer, 50-45 with 1:06 left.
Leonard hit s free throw with 28 seconds left to give CHPC a 51-45 advantage.
Fontenot scored on a steal and then hit a baseline jumper at the buzzer, but CHPC escaped with a 51-49 win.
Fontenot finished with 17 points to lead the Lady Jays, while Lafleur chipped in 13 points and Miller added nine points.
Leonard scored 13 points to lead Catholic-Pointe Coupee (11-3, 1-1), while Broussard contributed 10 points.
St. Edmund (6-13, 2-1) entertains Westminster Christian Academy Tuesday as district action contines.

CHPC 60, St. Ed’s 39
The battle was close early on before Catholic High broke the game open for a 60-39 win over St. Edmund.
Jude Ringo hit a trey to help the Hornets jump out to a 5-0 lead before Carter Andrus scored twice as the Jays closed the gap to 5-4.
Nate Carriere scored on a steal for CHPC, but Alex Dupre hit two free throws to close the margin to 7-6.
Ringo scored off a steal before Dupre converted a three-point play to help the Jays to tie the game 9-9 with 50 seconds left in the period.
Andrew Lacour scored on a jumper in the closing seconds to give the Hornets a 11-9 advantage into the second period.
After a free throw from Christian Fontentot to open the second quarter for the Jays, Ringo drilled a trey at the midway point to push the Hornets ahead, 16-10.
Ringo would add another trey with two seconds left to give Catholic-PC a 21-13 advantage at the break.
The Hornets added to its lead with a trey from Lee amd a drive from Carriere before Dupre answered with five points for the Jays.
A 9-2 run increased CHPC’s lead to 38-21, but Dupre answered with four free throws and a trey to help the Jays close the margin to 38-26.
A 6-0 run sparked by baskets from Nick Carriere, Nate Carriere and O’Callahan gave the Hornets a 44-26 lead as the game moved to the final quarter.
Back-to-back treys from Lacour and Lee along with a put-back by O’Callahan pushed the Hornets up 52-26 early in the fourth quarter.
Austin Gradney scored off a steal and Fontenot later added two free throws as the Jays closed the margin to 52-30 midway through the quarter.
Andrus hit a free throw and Dupre drove the lane for the Jays, but Patrick Boone drilled a trey to push the Hornets ahead, 57-33.
The Jays made a late push with a trey from Gradney and two free throws from Dupre, but a late second trey by Scott sealed the 60-39 win for the Hornets.
Dupre finished with 24 points to lead St. Edmund (2-17, 0-3), including hitting 14-of-15 free throws.
Lacour led CHPC (8-10, 1-1) with 12 points, while Ringo chipped om 11 points.
