By this week, many New Year’s resolutions are already broken and we are back to our old way of doing things.

But as a sports editor, there are several things I want to see happen in the newspaper this year.

Most of these resolutions require assistance from the readers, coaches and adminstrations.

Resolution No. 1 - I would like to see fishing and hunting photos in more issues of the paper and posted at www.eunicetoday.com.

Over the past few months, we have had several impressive hunting photos sent to us.

The Eunice News wants all your hunting photos including first kill, trophy buck or any animal you hunted and you want the world to see your accom- plishments.

You can email the photos and the information to tom.dodge@eunicetoday.com or send it to the paper at 465 Aymond Street, Eunice, LA. 70535.

Resolution No. 2 - better youth sports coverage.

For this to happen, we need the Eunice Recreation Department, along with any coaches to keep us informed about upcoming games and tournaments - and then report on how they did, including team photos holding trophies, etc.

We are the community’s newspaper and we want to see youth athletes get recognized in the sports section.

Resolution No. 3 - I will try to be everywhere at the same time.

Fans don’t understand that I miss some events because I am covering another game somewhere else.

That is where the head coaches and their assistants can make sure their team still gets noticed.

Faxing game results to 457-3122 and calling me at 457-3061 to make sure I got the information is the first step in helping your team get noticed.

Parents can help by reminding the coaches that their child deserves to be mentioned when they accomplish something great on the field or the court.

If you have an event that involves outdoors or sports such as a golf tournament, softball tournament, hunting event, 5K run or anything else, please call the office ahead of time and let us know it is happening.

That is much better than calling after and fussing because we missed it. Especially when we had no idea it was happening.

Resolution No. 4 - eat less, exercise more.

While that may not happen, it is a great idea.

But hopefully, the other resolutions take hold and we all can be excited about the increased sports coverage.
