PORT BARRE – The Eunice High Bobcats outscored the Port Barre High Red Devils by an 8-2 margin in overtime to capture their first District 4-3A victory with a 57-51 victory.
Coach John McLemore’s Bobcats (5-14, 1-2) hit six of eight free throws during the overtime period to earn the win. Ben Allison had the lone field goal for the Cats, while Warren Guidry and Trenon Trosclair made two-of-two free throws, and Allison and Shon Edwards connected on one of two free throws in overtime. Port Barre’s lone points in the overtime period was a field goal by Gerard Levier.
Port Barre had jumped to a 15-12 lead after one quarter, led by Keshawn Fontenot’s eight points. Allison led Eunice scoring in the quarter with eight points.
The Bobcats used a 12-8 advantage in the second quarter to build a 24-23 halftime lead. Jerwaski Thomas led the Cats with six points in the quarter. Levier had four points.
The Cats extended their lead to 37-33 after three quarters with a 13-10 advantage in the third quarter.
Trosclair had two treys to lead the Cats. Markell Broussard had six for the Red Devils.
Port Barre rallied in the fourth quarter to force overtime, using a 16-12 advantage over the final eight minutes of regulation.
Broussard had eight points to lead the Red Devils. Derek Denton had four and Trosclair added another trey for Eunice.
Allison finished with 14 and Trosclair ended with 13 to lead the Eunice offense. Denton had nine, while Edwards and Thomas added eight apiece. Guidry rounded out the scoring with five points.
Broussard led Port Barre with 19 points before fouling out. Levier had 17 and Fontenot finished with eight for the Red Devils.
The Bobcats will host Rayne Friday night in another 4-3A contest.
Port Barre 60, Eunice 31
PORT BARRE – Yet another slow start sealed the fate of the Eunice High Lady Bobcats in a District 4-3A game.
The Lady Bobcats were outscored 10-4 in the opening quarter, and trailed 27-13 at the half on their way to a 60-31 loss to the Lady Red Devils of Port Barre High here Tuesday night at the Port Barre gym.
Leading the way for the Lady Red Devils in the first half was A. Pickney with eight points. C. Savoie and S. Williams had six and five points, respectively.
Tia Winbush led Eunice with five points, and Adrianna Guillory added four for the Lady Bobcats in the first half.
Guillory scored seven of the Lady Cats’ nine points during the third quarter. Pickney led Port Barre in the third quarter with eight points as the Lady Red Devils held a 12-9 advantage in the quarter.
Port Barre would breeze to victory by outscoring the Lady Cats 21-9 in the final quarter, with Pickney, Williams, and K. Andrus sharing top scoring honors with four apiece. Winbush had five points for Eunice in the final quarter.
For the game, Pickney led all scorers with 22 points. Williams added 11 and Savoie had 10 for Port Barre. Guillory finished the game with 13 points for Eunice. Winbush had 10, with Taylor Freeman contributing four points. Samantha McGee and Abby Hillman completed the Eunice scoring with a field goal apiece.
The Lady Cats will continue district play on Friday as they host the Lady Wolves of Rayne High School at the Bobcat gym.
