Detective Richard Daigle puts police tape across the hallway at the Eunice Police Dept. while the source of a sewerage leak is determined.
A sewerage leak in the Eunice Police Department has halted most office operations while the source of the problem is determined.

Eunice Police noticed the sewerage leak in the main hallway of the police department early Monday morning.

The hallway has since been closed to the public as jail trustees worked to clean up the hallway and nearby offices.

Eunice Police Chief Ronald Dies said he was currentl;y in contact with the St. Landry Sheriff’s Office to evacuate the 37 inmates housed in the Eunice City Jail.

“It’s a public health hazard,” Dies said. “We can’t operate like this.”

Mayor Claud “Rusty” Moody said that the water and gas for city hall have been shut off until the source of the problem can be determined, and that the plumber has been contacted.

Work took place over the weekend to lift the sinking foundation of the police station by injecting liquid cement beneath the building.
