A Eunice man was arrested Saturday evening after allegedly firing an assault rifle into the air.

Eunice Police report responding to a call in reference to shots fired in the area of the 1400 block of Anne Street.

Officers detained two individuals attempted to leave a residence on Anne Street, and discovered a spent rifle casing in the pocket of one of the men, police said.

Several people in the yard of the residence told police they didn’t hear shots being fired, but the homeowner advised officers that she heard shots fired while she was in the bathroom, police said.

She reportedly told police she heard individuals talking about hiding the gun, and gave police permission to search her house.

Officers located a Romanian SKS assault rifle with a pistol grip behind the refrigerator, according to police.

The homeowner also reportedly located a high capacity magazine in a closet and turned it over to officers.

Police detained everyone on the site for questioning. Police said that during the investigation, Travis Woods, 19, 581 Halsey Avenue, admitted to shooting the rifle in the air.

Several spent casings were also located at the scene and seized as evidence, police said.

Woods was placed under arrest and charged with discharging a firearm.
