Bobcats cruise past Red Devils, 12-0

The Eunice High Bobcats defeated the Port Barre High Red Devils by a 12-0 margin in Summer League action Thursday evening at Bobcat Field.

Three Bobcat pitchers combined to no-hit the Red Devils in the five-inning, run-rule contest.

The Bobcat pitchers got all the support they needed from their teammates, who pounded out 11 hits against Port Barre pitching.

Drake Fruge started the game on the mound for the Cats, working two innings, walking two and striking out three. Kalum Fruge worked two innings, walking two and striking out two. Jordan Comeaux finished up for the Cats, walking one in his one inning of work.

The Cats took the early lead with a three-run first inning. John Ross Johnson opened the inning with a double and Jake Sonnier drew a walk. Hayden Pitre singled in Johnson before Drake Fruge doubled home Sonnier and Pitre for a 3-0 lead.

Eunice added a run in the second inning as Johnson singled, stole second base, and scored on an error. The Cats scored four runs in the third inning to pull away from the Devils. Drake Fruge and Andrew Lomas each singled, then advanced to third and second on a double steal. Clay Francois singled home both runners. Francois would score on a double by Scotty Bihm to put the Cats on top by an 8-0 margin.

A four-run fourth inning completed the Eunice scoring. Sonnier singled, stole second, and scored on Pitre’s single. With one out, Lomas drew a walk and both runners scored on a single by Francois. After a wild pitch, Francois scored on a single by Blaise LeJeune.

The Cats are scheduled to host Mamou on Tuesday and Crowley on Thursday as Summer League play continues next week.
