Tiring of ‘dirt’

Editor, The Eunice News:

I was quite dismayed when I read the article on the front about the charges lodged against Keith Ortego. The Eunice News does not have all the facts, and I think that it was in poor taste, to say the very least, that this was splashed across the front page.

Mr. Ortego may have made some poor choices, but I really do not think it was necessary to embarrass his parents and relatives who reside in Eunice.

I am sure that this was very painful for them, and his friends. I seriously doubt that Mr. Ortego is the predator that the article painted him to be.

The charges were filed as a misdemeanor, which the article did state, but I did not find it necessary to give the details, which were sketchy at best. And, why the details of his career? What did that have to do with the article headline?

This is not the first case of something like this happening. Other stories made a front page splash about other well-known people in Eunice, who may, or may not have made poor choices.

Some of these stories were published before the charges were actually proven. Again, this causing embarrassment, and pain those who know and love them.

All I can say is, shame on whoever wrote the article, and shame on you, Mr Butler, for allowing it to be printed in our local newspaper. I am beginning to tire of seeing nothing but “dirt” on the front page. Put away your scarlet letters and print more of “the good stuff” about our friends and families.

Editor’s Note: The article referred to was published on June 17. As of July 23, no formal charges had been filed by the district attorney in the Acadia Parish case.

I agree with you Bonnie. I too am so tires of reading the "dirt" on our citizens. I am sure that if we dug deep enought, everyone would have something negative that could be written about them. Everyone maked bad choices as some point in their lives, but that doesn't make them bad people. Let's print what's right & good with our community, instead of all the trash.
