LSUE’s Director of Physical Plant and Safety Coordinator Michael Broussard presented the group with information about the campus’ layout, student populations levels and pinpointed key utility sites and areas where fuel and chemicals were housed.
Earlier this year, key members of the LSUE administration and staff became FEMA certified in IS-00700 National Incident Management Systems and IS-00100 Incident Command Systems.
The university is currently enrolling students, faculty and staff in a mobile alert system that will allow LSUE the ability to better communicate emergency information to the campus community. The campus is also exploring options to upgrade fire alarms systems in the university’s buildings to allow for campus-wide emergency notification.
LSUE plans to host the meeting annually to keep local officials up-to-date on the emergency procedures and changes to the campus.
