Saturday morning, May 31, veterans and their families, along with other military supporters, gathered around the flag pole at the Evangeline Parish Courthouse to pay tribute to veterans on Memorial Day. Members of the 1086th Transportation Unit of the Ville Platte National Guard were on hand for the ceremony and a 21-gun salute to the veterans’ departed comrades was given by the Vietnam Veterans. Father Tremie said a prayer for our soldiers and Lori Stromer Blanchard sang for the ceremony. Cecil Colligan, VFW Commander, served as master of ceremonies.
