MANDEVILLE - The Eunice Oilers finished as 2009 state runners-up after splitting title round games Monday night with Captiol One in the Junior American Legion tournament held at Fountainbleau High School.
Eunice earned a 13-3 win to force the if neccessary game, where the Junior Oilers dropped a 4-3 decision to the host team.
In the championship opener, Zac Person fanned eight, walked four and allowed three runs on three hits for the win.
Blake Peterson suffered the loss as he allowed nine runs on four hits with two strikeouts and a walk in only 1/3 of an inning of work as Eunice scored five runs with two outs in the first frame.
Brett Darbonne led Eunice with a 4-for-4 performance with a double and four RBI.
Matthew Ward went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while Martin Seemion went 1-for-2 with a RBI.
Matthew Bari went 1-for-2 with two RBI, while Terry Alexander went 1-for-3 for Eunice.
In the finale, Capitol One scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to break a 3-3 tie to seal the win.
Kourt Deshotel was handed the loss for Eunice as he fanned four walked three and allowed four runs on eight hits.
Adam Heins grabbed the win for Capitol One as he fanned five, walked two and allowed three runs on four hits.
Brody Olivier went 2-for-4 with a double for the Oilers, while Trent Vidrine was 1-for-2, Person went 1-for-1 and Bari was 1-for-4 with two RBI.
