BATON ROUGE -- Odie Posey, one of the most accomplished players in Southern University football history, has died, the school announced Wednesday. He was a retired businessman living in Baton Rouge.

During Posey's era as a running back, SU won three black college national championships, four Southern Athletic Conference titles and two bowl games. The Jaguars went 46-2-2 during his four years at SU.

Posey was a four-year all-conference selection and was the 1949 national rushing champion with the still-standing school record of 1,399 yards.

He was drafted for the National Football League by the Los Angeles Rams.
