The LA Heat scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning and went on to grab a 5-2 win over the Mamou Cajuns on Wednesday.
Both teams threatened with base runners in the first inning but neither scored before Mamou jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning.
Natalie Deshotel was hit by a pitch and Debonie Gregory reached on a fielder’s choice before Shawna Fontenot hit a sacrifice fly to plate Deshotel for a 1-0 Mamou lead.
Kaitlyn Bellard drew a walk and Gregory crossed home plate on a double steal by the Cajuns.
The Heat’s third-inning rally started when Maggie Miller, Katie Richard and Olivia Lafleur all singled to load the bases.
Ashley Miller blasted a triple to the centerfield fence to clear the bases and push the Heat up 3-2.
Miller scored on a sacrifice by Olivier to give the St. Edmund-based team a 4-2 advantage.
Brooke Fontenot reached on a walk in the bottom of the fourth and scored on a single by Richard who was tagged out attempting to advance to second on the play.
After scoring two runs in the second frame, Mamou put runners on in every inning but the Heat defense stiffened to preserve the 5-2 win.
Ashley Miller led the Heat with a 2-for-2, 3 RBI performance, while Richard went 2-for-3 with RBI.
Brooke Fontenot, Lafleur and Maggie Miller all went 1-for-2 in the win.
Katie Deville and Fontenot recorded the only two hits and left six on base, while the three Heat pitchers allowed five walks and two hitbatsmen.
The Heat will visit Mamou on Wednesday before returning home to take on St. Joe’s on June 30.
