LeJeune, Moody in mayor's race; council field grows

Former mayor E. Lynn LeJeune and former assistant school superintendent Claud "Rusty" Moody qualified Thursday to run for Eunice mayor on Oct. 2, joining Chawana V. Fontenot, currently Ward 3 City Council member, and James “Berk” Veillon who filed papers on Wednesday.

Qualifying closes at 5 p.m. today.

Others qualifying on the second day for candidates to make it official were LSU Eunice professor Tony Baltakis, City Council Ward 1, and Building Inspector-Code Enforcement Officer Gary Bult, City Council Ward 4.

Thurdsday's qualifiers join at-large alderman I. Jackson “Jack” Burson, seeking a new term, and incumbent Ward 1 alderman Wallace “Bubba” Bourque, running against Burson.

Other candidates:

Ward 1: George Fisher and Roland Miller.

Ward 2: Incumbent Germaine Simpson and Lloyd Hilton Antoine.

Ward 3: James "Jr." Bergeron, Gardie McManus.

Ward 4: Scott Fontenot.

Chief of Police: Raymond “Bubba” Cole, Randy Fontenot, Allarate “A.J.” Frank, Bart L. Thibodeaux.

School Board, all incumbents:

District 11: Roger Young.

District 12: Josie Gale Frank.

District 13: Harry B. Fruge.
