Prominent eye surgeon dies when deer strikes his motorcycle

SHREVEPORT -- A pprominent northwest

Louisiana eye surgeon died when a deer rammed into his motorcycle Thursday morning.

Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator said Dr. William Steen, Jr., 71, was wearing a helmet when the buck struck his bike near the city about 7 a.m.

Steen fell from the motorcycle, which rolled about 500 feet before stopping at a thicket.

An oncoming vehicle struck and killed the deer.

Steen was a founder of the Steen-Hall Eye Institute, which

includes laser vision correction, LASIK, and cataract surgery and

the outpatient eye surgery clinic of Willis-Knighton hospital.
