It’s not clear what a man was fishing for but it is certain he was using an apparently dead raccoon for bait.

Police received a complaint Saturday afternoon that a man with a dead raccoon tied to his fishing line was casting it from the sidewalk into the path of oncoming vehicles on West Park Avenue, apparently trying to convince approaching drivers that they had run over the animal.

Responding offices first ascertained taht the raccoon was a fake, not a real, dead animal.

Their report does not indicate what the afternoon angler hoped to accomplish with his sleight of hand.

As there is no law against fishing with a fake raccoon, nor is a license required, no citation was issued, but the fisherman was advised to hang up his rod.
